Rates settle on high plateau, having risen 119pc annually

 THE Drewry World Container Index (WCI) remained flat week to week in east-west trades globally on December 23, but increased 119 per cent on a year-on-year basis, reported the American Journal of Transportation.

the average composite index of the WCI, assessed by Drewry for the year to date, is US$7,555 per FEU, which is $4,756 higher than the five-year average of $2,799.

Specifically, the rate to ship an FEU from Shanghai to Rotterdam increased 110 per cent year on year on December 23 to US$13,642. From Rotterdam to Shanghai the rate increased 18 per cent to $1,547 year on year.

The rate to ship an FEU from Shanghai to Genoa increased 93 per cent year on year on December 23 to $12,832.

From Shanghai to Los Angeles, the FEU rate increased 93 per cent year on year on December 23 to $10,221. From Los Angeles to Shanghai the rate increased 153 per cent $1,309.

The rate to ship an FEU from Shanghai to New York increased 161 per cent year on year on December 23 to $13,094.

From New York to Los Rotterdam the FEU rate increased 83 per cent year on year on December 23 to $1,187. From Rotterdam to New York the rate increased 219 per cent $6,290.
