GERMAN shipping giant Hapag Lloyd has implement a congestion surcharge (CGD) for containers bound for the port of Mersin in southern Turkey, according to Container News.
The surcharge of US$150 per TEU and $300 per FEU for dry and reefer containers came into effect on Monday July 17 for containers with the following "geographical scope": From the Middle East & Indian Subcontinent to Mersin and from the Far East to Mersin.
The carrier said the Middle East & Indian Subcontinent covers the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, while the Far East coverage comprises Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, Korea, Myanmar, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam.
