US forces carried out a strike on Iranian territory after Iranian drones targeted merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, reports Fort Lauderdale's Maritime Executive.

Officials said Iranian forces launched four Shahed-136 one-way drones at vessels in the strait. US Air Force and Navy jets intercepted and destroyed all four before they reached their targets. Navy F/A-18 Hornets then struck the Iranian ground control unit near Bandar Abbas.

The Pentagon described the action as measured and defensive, aimed at maintaining the ceasefire. Talks mediated by Qatar and Oman are said to be close to agreement on a longer truce.

President Donald Trump rejected a proposal to share control of Hormuz traffic with Oman, threatening military action against the Gulf state if it resisted US demands. Oman has historically administered the strait's traffic scheme without charge.

Separately, the US Treasury announced sanctions on the Persian Gulf Strait Authority, an Iranian body set up to manage transit arrangements and fee payments for the "Tehran Tollbooth" route. The authority is run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, designated a foreign terrorist organisation.
