NYK buys 12.5pc share in Kaohsiung terminal from Yang Ming
NIPPON Yusen Kaisha (NYK), through its unit Nippon Container Terminals, is to acquire 12.5 per cent stake in Yang Ming's Kao Ming Container Terminal Corp (KMCT) for an undisclosed sum.
KMCT started operations in Taiwan's largest port in 2011 and has 960-metre berth capable of handling two 14,000-TEU vessels at the same time. A second phase is due for completion in September 2014, which will enable the terminal to handle four 14,000-TEU ships simultaneously.
NYK noted the terminal's green credentials including the use of windmills and solar power.
