July TEU score: Singapore 2.95 million TEU, Shanghai 3.06 million TEU

CONTAINER throughput in the Port of Singapore remained unchanged in July year on year, according to the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), doing little to dislodge Shanghai as the world's top container port.

Shanghai recently posted a 2.8 per cent July box volume increase year-on-year to 3.06 million TEU. Year to date, Shanghai lifted 20.33 million TEU, an increase of 5.3 per cent.

July's Singapore box volumes stood at 2.95 million TEU, unchanged from the same period in 2012. Throughput in July, however, increased 3.9 per cent compared to 2.84 million TEU posted in June.

Year-to-date, Singapore handled a total throughput of 19.45 million, a year-on-year increase of 3.6 per cent.
