Mexico's ports to be equipped with 50 Kalmar terminal tractors

CARGOTEC has won an order for 50 Kalmar Ottawa 4 x 2 terminal tractors from Idealease, a North American truck and equipment lease and rental services business.

The units will be leased to a customer operating at the ports of Lazaro Cardenas and Manzanillo located on Mexico's Pacific Coast. Delivery of the new machines will begin in November 2010, a Cargotec statement said.

"Customers operating in Mexico receive good support from our network of representation," said Rafael Llamas, managing director of Cargotec Mexico. "Our local presence combined with the superior reliability and robustness of Kalmar Ottawa terminal tractors makes them the perfect solution for any fast-paced containerised trailer handling operation."

The new machines were requested by the end user, which has operated Kalmar terminal tractors in the past. Cargotec's area dealer, Maquinaria Innovativa de Veracruz, will provide full maintenance and service on the units ensuring their maximum uptime.

The Kalmar Ottawa 4 x 2 terminal tractor has been designed as the most durable yard tractor on the market. The terminal tractors are equipped with a Cummins QSB6.7L 173 HP/129 kW and an Allison 3500RDS/IM transmission. A reinforced L-frame chassis and heavy-duty boom enable the machines to perform consistently under repeated shock loads.
