HONG KONG's Hutchison Ports Yantian in neighbouring Shenzhen has been named the Best Container Terminal - Asia at the 2023 Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain (AFLAS) at a Singapore gala.
"In the past six years, Yantian has been named Best Container Terminal - Asia (Over four million TEU) twice and Best Green Container Terminal thrice," said Yantian managing director Lawrence Shum.
"These awards underscore Yantian's unwavering commitment to quality, efficiency and environmentally friendly service as well as having comprehensive domestic and international network. We thank our customers who cast their votes for us," Mr Shum said.
Since its establishment 30 years ago, Yantian has developed into one of the world's largest container terminals. With 20 deep-water berths, Yantian records an annual throughput of over 13 million TEU, serving 1/4 of the container volume generated by the Chinese export to US and 1/3 of the foreign trade container traffic of Guangdong province.
"These accomplishments we celebrate today are a testament to the continued support from our business partners, customers, governments, shareholders and most importantly the dedication and commitment of our staff," said Mr Shum.
Endowed with deep-water, Yantian has an 18-metre navigation channel and is 475-metre wide reach in the Greater Bay Area of China, allowing two-way navigation for the world's largest containerships in all weather.
Fully loaded mega-vessels can easily depart for anywhere in the world without waiting for a high tide.
