FRENCH shipping group CMA CGM is offering "cargo cruises" aboard its 13,800-TEU containerships, the biggest vessels in its fleet that measure 365 metres in length, equivalent to 3.5 soccer fields.
According to a company statement, 690 people chose to travel on a container ship in 2010.
The cruises take passengers along its merchant shipping routes, including Europe-Asia; Asia-Mediterranean; US-Asia, Round the World: Europe-US-Australia (via the Panama Canal); North Europe-Caribbean Sea via the Atlantic; and North Europe to the West Indies.
One of the vessels the company uses to offer cruises is its flagship, the CMA CGM Christophe Colomb, which is fitted with a private deck, library, fitness room and swimming pool, the French shipping line said.
