Global Container Services deploys 2nd rail-mounted gantry near Moscow

GLOBAL Container Services (GCS) in Russia has installed a second rail-mounted gantry crane (RMG) at its MANP terminal on the outskirts of Moscow, to handle five or six train arrivals per week.

The company also announced that it has also increased the container yard capacity to 2,500 TEU and the rail track length to three kilometres.

The new RMG was manufactured in Russia by Technoros and has a lift capacity of 36 tonnes. Containers can be stacked five-high and its internal span of 42 metres allows containers to be stacked 12 across. It has an outreach that enables it to service a parallel railway track.

MANP is located next to the Kresty railway station 45 kilometres southwest of the Moscow ring-road where a number of road distribution hubs are situated.

MANP is close to the Kaluga region where several major international companies have manufacturing, assembly and distribution plants, including Samsung, Panasonic, LG, PSA Peugeot Citroen, Mitsubishi, Adidas, X5 and Nestle. Some of them use MANP for receiving, storage and distribution.

The terminal covers 14.6 hectares and includes several warehouses offering 15,000 square metres of storage capacity as well as a customs bonded area. The terminal also operates its own fleet of trucks and it recently increased its fleet by five new units, for the distribution of goods from the terminal to the storage and production sites of consignees.
