Hong Kong down 12.7pc in May, Singapore off 10.9pc, Shanghai up 4.7pc

FIGURES from the Hong Kong Marine Department showed the port handled 1.7 million TEU in May, a year-on-year decrease of 12.7 per cent year on year.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) data revealed that throughput in May dropped 10.9 per cent year on year to 2.62 million TEU.

Volumes were stable compared to 2.63 million TEU post in May. In the first five months of 2015, the Singapore posted a 2.1 per cent decline to 13.38 million TEU year on year.

The Port of Shanghai posted a 4.7 per cent year-on-year increase in container volume in May to 3.16 million TEU, according to the Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

On a month-to-month comparison, volumes rose 1.5 per cent from 3.11 million TEU handled in May this year.

In the first five months of this year, Shanghai port moved a total throughput of 14.95 million TEU, up 4.2 per cent year on year.
