Damietta port's container throughput growth is flat in July with 91,700 TEU
EGYPT's Damietta port" target="_blank" class="external noeffect"> Damietta port handled 91,700 TEU in July, up fractionally from the 91,500 TEU that passed through the port during the same month a year earlier, according to a report issued by Damietta Port Authority. Cargo handled in the port grew despite the number of vessel calls falling. The report highlighted that 254 vessels visited the port in July down from 260 vessels in the same month of 2017, marking a decline of 2.3 per cent. The volume of cargo handled at the port rose by 2.8 per cent year on year to reach 3.2 million tonnes in May, compared to 3.1 million tonnes in May 2017. The volume of liquid bulk goods rose by 495.7 per cent this May, while general cargo was up by 64.7 per cent and the volume of containerised good rose by one per cent, reported Egypt Daily News. The report added that dry bulk cargo volumes at the port surged by 17 per cent year on year to reach 3.6 million tonnes in July.
