LOS ANGELES International Airport registered a six per cent year-on-year decline in air cargo tonnage in July to total 190,000 tons as US-China trade tariffs impacted cargo volumes. Year to date, air cargo was down 4.3 per cent compared to the first seven months of 2018, falling to 1.3 million tons, according to figures released by the airport's governing authority, reported Los Angeles Business Journal. The airport's passenger traffic in July rose by 0.4 per cent compared to July 2018 to reach 8.5 million. Year to date, passenger numbers were up 0.8 per cent year on year to 51.5 million. July's air traffic picture was mixed at two of the region's smaller outlying airports: Long Beach and Ontario International. At Ontario, air passenger traffic was up 10.4 per cent in July compared to the same month last year to stand at 495,000, data from the Ontario International Airport Authority showed. Traffic increased by seven per cent over the first seven months of this year to total three million. At Long Beach Airport, passenger counts dropped 10.8 per cent in July to 319,000, according to figures compiled by the city-run airport authority. For the first seven months of 2019, passenger numbers declined by 15 per cent to two million.
