Guangdong to develop five hubs and nine regional ports

THE Guangdong authority unveiled a coastal port construction plan which covers five hub ports including Guangzhou and Shenzhen and nine regional ports including Chaozhou and Shanwei, Xinhua reported.

According to the Guangdong Provincial Coastal Ports Layout Plan, Guangdong will make ports of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhanjiang, Zhuhai and Shantou hub ports and others including Chaozhou, Jieyang, Shanwei, Huizhou, Humen, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Yangjiang and Maoming regional important ports, the report said.

Making good use of its coast line, Guangdong will develop deep-water terminals and upgrade port connections to highways, railroads and river waterways, the report said.

Guangdong will develop a modern port system with proper redistribution, optimum structure, good functions and ports of different levels will be taking shape by optimising port layout and integrating port resources, said Guangdong governor Huang Huahua.

Guangdong ports handled 834.37 million tons in 2007, a year-on-year growth of 13.1 per cent. Import and export value of Guangdong accounts for about one third in the total value of China.
