Liberian 5,618-TEUer grounded after engine failure in Savannah
THE 5618-TEU SM Vancouver ran aground on a sandbar while leaving the Port of Savannah north of Tybee island at 7pm Saturday, reports Kiev's Maritime Bulletin, which specialises in marine casualties.
It was said to be "soft" grounding, the result of engine failure. The Liberian-flagged ship was refloated four hours later with the help of tugs, and anchored at Savannah outer anchorage.
Sunday morning, the Korea Shipping-managed vessel was at anchor, and bound for Fort Lauderdale, where it had been expected to arrive Monday before the grounding occurred.
