THE Georgia Ports Authority sees the Mason Mega Rail as a main point in providing speedy links to markets throughout the US Southeast and beyond, reports the American Journal of Transportation.

During a recent online tour guests saw the 15,000-TEU CMA Brazil being moved to its berth, demonstrating the Port of Savannah's ability to handle large containerships.

From July to September, the Port of Savannah handled 1.2 million TEU, an increase of 1.6 per cent. The port had a monthly record in September by growing by 11.4 per cent, making it a total of 412,148 TEU in September.

Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) executive director Griff Lynch and GPA chairman Will McKnight took online guests for a tour of their expansion plans.

"We're making strategic expansions to ensure cargo fluidity as Savannah's container trade increases. Our long-term infrastructure investments ensure GPA is ready when our customers are ready to grow," said Mr McKnight.
