Guangzhou to spend US$2.02 billion on sea freight hub development project

GUANGZHOU plans to invest CNY12.7 billion (US$2.02 billion) on its major hub seaport development project to upgrade its port capacity, reports Xinhua.

According to Guangzhou Development and Reform Commission, the project is comprised of the phase two expansion of Xinsha port area, Nansha port area bulk terminal, expansion of Guangzhou port navigation channel, Nansha port area near-sea terminal and a cruise terminal.

The Xinsha port area phase two project includes four container berths of 50,000 tonnes, six feeder berths of 1,000 tonnes. It will bring another 1.9 million TEU capacity to Guangzhou after completion.

The Nansha port area bulk terminal project includes one 150,000-tonne berth for coal and ore, one 150,000-tonne and two 100,000-tonne coal berths, and 11 1,000-tonne feeder berths. The project will generate a total of 52 million tonnes' annual capacity.

The Nansha port area near-sea terminal project will consist of a main terminal with two 50,000-tonne bulk berths and a auxiliary terminal with one 3,000-tonne and two 2,000-tonne bulk berths, as well as other facilities like stack yard and warehouse.

The cruise terminal project is also located in Nansha, occupying an area of 134,700 square metres and a quay length of 790 metres, comprising of one 100,000-tonne and one 250,000-tonne cruise ship berths, costing CNY2 billion.
