China's port throughput nationwide grows 5.7pc in first two months

DURING January and February, China recorded a collective port container throughput of 29.39 million TEU, up 5.9 per cent year on year, Xinhua reports.

Seaports lifted 26.48 million TEU, up 6.7 per cent. River ports handled 2.91 million TEU, down 0.4 per cent.

In the same period, aggregate throughput tonnage of the Chinese ports grew 5.7 per cent to 1.7 billion tonnes. Seaports' increased seven per cent to 1.21 billion tonnes. River ports' went up 2.5 per cent to 490 million tonnes.

The Chinese port's throughput of foreign trade goods added up to 580 million tonnes, up 9.8 per cent. Seaports handled 530 million tonnes, up 9.6 per cent. River ports handled 51.44 million, up 11.7 per cent.

In February, the Chinese ports lifted 12.77 million TEU with 11.42 million TEU were handled by sea ports and 1.36 million TEU by river ports.

Throughput tonnage of the ports in the country added up to 780 million tonnes. Seaports recorded 560 million tonnes and river ports 220 million tonnes.

Foreign trade cargo throughput of the Chinese ports totalled to 260 million tonnes while 240 million tonnes were handled by seaports and 22.9 million tonnes by river ports.
