Ukraine says air strike destroys Russian ship in Crimea

THE Ukrainian air force says it has "destroyed" the 2,812-displacement ton Novocherkassk, a naval landing ship, with an air-to-surface missile in the Crimean Port of Feodosia, reports Aljazeera.

Russia's defence ministry and officials confirmed the overnight strike, according to the Interfax news agency, but only said the ship was "damaged".

One person was killed and two injured in the attack, said Crimea governor Sergei Aksyonov.

In the Ukrainian air force's message on social media, it said: "People say that it [the Novocherkassk] transported Shaheds", referring to Iranian explosive drones that Russia has used regularly to attack Ukraine.

Ukrainian commander Mykola Oleshchuk also posted a video of an explosion at the Russian naval base of Feodosia.

"And the fleet in Russia is getting smaller and smaller! Thanks to the air force pilots and everyone involved!" he wrote.
